Elisha Almeida

My ancestors come from India and Persia. I am fortunate to have been exposed to Indian culture while being born and raised in Kuwait. My grandmother spoke to me in Hindi and it was the language that I got to learn in school. My parents took us to India to visit every other year and I feel profoundly grateful to have a familiar sense of the land of my origin. I was 16, when my family moved to Canada.

Human connections, community living and belonging have been at the center of my soul’s pursuit. This took me down various paths that have helped me find the puzzle pieces to who I am:

Working in the Social Service Sector for 10 years: I have been in various helping roles supporting youth and families through 1:1 connection and group facilitation. In my most recent role, I supported families with challenging behaviors of children/youth in the foster and kinship models of care. I bore witness to intergenerational wounding combined with systemic flaws as a consistent thread that perpetuated cycles of continued challenge.

Pursuing alternative modalities of healing for self- through embodying a movement, dance and meditation practice, somatic experience healing (SE) sessions, Ritual Education And Rites of Passage (REAR) program and Ancestral Lineage Healing.

Traveling and living in community - based settings in India, Costa Rica and New Zealand. I learned to move slowly and connect with the land and its inhabitants. I cherished preparing and eating nourishing meals in a caring environment. I felt the warmth of like -minded people gathering to sing, meditate and move together.

In a rite of passage ceremony on the traditional territories of the Saanich, Cowichen and Chemanius first nations, I had an experience of my own ancestors which led me to start my own lineage healing journey as developed by Dr. Daniel Foor. The conscious tending of relationship with my ancestors has helped me embody greater faith, find right place and access true belonging. I continue to deepen my relationship with the other-than-human kin through spirit quest and nature based ceremonies.

I live on the traditional unceded lands of the K’omoks First Nations (Courtenay, BC). I love ecstatic dance, mutli-day hiking and creating meals in my kitchen.
